Perhaps one of the hardest things about grief isn't simply missing someone. It's having so much love left to give them.

When we lose someone we love, the world changes in ways we could never have imagined.

There are the obvious absences. The empty chair. The familiar voice we can no longer hear. The phone number we still know by heart but can no longer call.

And then there are the smaller moments.

Seeing something funny and instinctively thinking, "I must tell them about that."

Reaching for the phone before remembering.

Finding something in a shop they would have loved.

Or waking from a dream in which, just for a little while, everything was as it used to be.

It's in these moments that we discover something rather extraordinary about love.

The person may be gone, but the love we feel for them hasn't gone anywhere.

Grief Is Love With Nowhere Familiar to Go

We spend our lives expressing love through ordinary things.

Making someone a cup of tea. Remembering their favourite chocolate. Asking whether they've arrived home safely. Buying a birthday card. Sharing a joke that nobody else would understand.

These tiny acts of affection become so much a part of our lives that we barely notice them.

Until suddenly, we can no longer do them.

And perhaps that's one of the reasons grief can feel so overwhelming.

We haven't stopped loving someone. We've simply lost the familiar ways of showing it.

The love remains, even when the everyday opportunities to express it have disappeared.

What If We Don't Have to Stop Giving That Love?

There's a beautiful idea that offers a different way of looking at bereavement.

Rather than trying to put our love away, perhaps we can find new places for it to live.

In the stories we tell.

In the traditions we continue.

In the recipes we make because they remind us of someone.

In the kindness we show another person because that's what our loved one would have done.

Or in the small, treasured objects that keep a memory close.

A favourite photograph, a handwritten note, an old jumper, a piece of jewellery or a childhood teddy bear can become far more than an ordinary possession.

It becomes something we can hold when we can no longer hold the person.

Not a replacement-simply another way to maintain that feeling of connection.

Why Something to Hold Can Mean So Much

There are times when grief is difficult to put into words, and there are times when words aren't really what we need.

Sometimes, we just want a hug.

Something soft to hold close during a difficult evening.

This is why a teddy bear isn't necessarily just a gift for a child.

For an adult experiencing bereavement, a soft bear can offer a small, tangible source of comfort...

not because it can take away the sadness, but because it represents something that remains-

'love'.

The Gift That Says What We Cannot

It's also difficult being the person standing alongside someone who is grieving.

We want to help. We want to say something meaningful. We want to make things better.

But there are no magic words.

And perhaps we put too much pressure on ourselves to find them.

Because someone who is grieving doesn't necessarily need us to have the answers.

They may simply need to know we're there.

That we remember.

That we care.

That we haven't forgotten the person they loved.

A thoughtful remembrance gift can communicate these things without demanding a conversation, an explanation or even a response.

It quietly says:

I know how much they meant to you. And I want you to know that you're not alone.

Love Is Eternal — A Little Bear With a Lasting Message

At Bear and Rhyme, our Love is Eternal Bereavement Teddy Bear was created around this very sentiment.

A beautifully soft traditional brown teddy bear, accompanied by an original sympathy poem and a personalised remembrance tag bearing the name of someone dearly loved.

The bear is presented in a matching gift bag, making it a thoughtful alternative to traditional sympathy flowers.

It's a small gesture, but one that can be held close, displayed and treasured long after the flowers have faded.

And Perhaps That's Where the Love Goes...

Maybe love doesn't need somewhere new to go at all.

Maybe it stays exactly where it has always been.

In the memories we carry.

In the people we've become because we knew them.

In the things we do, the stories we share and the moments when we find ourselves smiling at something they once said.

Grief changes over time, although it doesn't follow a neat timetable. Some days are easier than others, and there's no right or wrong way to remember someone.

But we don't have to stop loving someone simply because their life has ended.

We can carry that love forward, in whatever way feels right for us.

Because although a life may end, the love it created can continue for a lifetime.

With warmest wishes,

Amanda.
